Jane and Dave welcome you to Apiary Cottage and our Bed & Breakfast website.  We are located within the South Downs National Park, in the attractive village of Compton, which is 8 miles south-east of Petersfield and 10 miles north-west of the cathedral city of Chichester.

Our comfortable bed and breakfast has been awarded the AA 4 star rating.  We are pleased to provide cooked breakfasts using fresh local ingredients wherever possible.  We pride ourselves on our friendly personal service.

We have a peaceful secluded garden, where you are welcome to relax and enjoy views of the South Downs.

Compton is a lovely rural location in which to be based when visiting the South Downs.  There are many beautiful walks with stunning views.  Nearby are the South Downs Way, Monarch’s Way and Sussex Border Path.  There are local walks from our front door, several are detailed in the Octagon Walks booklet which is viewable online (see the link below).

The village of Compton has a pub which serves lunches and evening meals, a well-stocked shop with tearoom and an historic 12th century church.  The recreation ground has a tennis court, which may be used by arrangement and there is play equipment for children.

Within the local area there are many places of interest to visit including: ‘Uppark’ (National Trust house and garden) and Stansted Park (house and grounds).  In Chichester there is a Norman Cathedral, the highly regarded Chichester Festival Theatre, Pallant House Gallery, the Novium museum and the South Downs Planetarium.

Near to Chichester is the Goodwood Estate with its house, parkland and golf course.  Goodwood is well known for horse racing and the ‘Glorious Goodwood’ week, the Festival of Speed, the Goodwood Revival event and the Cass Sculpture Park.

Just south of the city is Chichester Harbour and the renowned large sandy beach at West Wittering, holding the Blue Flag Award for cleanliness and safety.

The City of Portsmouth is 16 miles away with its Historic Dockyard, Royal Navy Museums, HMS Victory, Mary Rose and HMS Warrior.
